US Army Corp of Engineers

The US Army Corps was chartered with the task to implement a long term corrosion control maintenance program to protect the interior surfaces of 17 potable water storage tanks at the Kilauea Military Camp on the island of Hawaii. These tanks are vital to the operation of this facility. The Owner was looking for an experienced firm to facilitate installation of these systems on the tanks so that they could continue to operate without concern for interior corrosion related failures.

On November 30, 2000, CorrTech was awarded Contract FY99 OMA Pkg A-44, Cathodic Protection for Various Water Tanks, Kilauea Military Camp, Hawaii. CorrTech was selected for this Project because we presented the most economical approach in fulfilling the contract requirements. Under this Contract, CorrTech installed cathodic protection systems for the interior 17 water storage tank at the Kilauea Military Camp, Hawaii. These systems were designed by others. CorrTech was responsible for installing the 460 3roof hung anodes, rectifiers, AC services, solar powered units and providing final testing and personnel training.

This project required 100% performance and payment bonds. CorrTech coordinated submittal requirements for military review, including the electrical subcontractor. CorrTech prepared several work plans related to quality, safety and environmental protection for this contract. The CQC System Plan provided for the necessary supervision, control phases and tests for all items of work CorrTech and/or its subcontractors and vendors performed. As a result of our efforts, CorrTech received an overall above average rating from the Army Corps of Engineers on form DD 2626.

Timothy Phillips, P.E, Resident Engineer for the Project stated, with relation to CorrTech's implementation of the Governments CQC Plan:

Selkirk Cogen awarded a number of orders engagemnets to CorrTech since 1999 and has an ongoing relationship with CorrTech today. Mr. Bill Slaver, Instrument & Electrical Technician of Selkirk Cogen states: Through CorrTech's services we were able to satisfy Regulatory compliance requirements with complete and concise inspection and testing documentation as well as perform all of the on-site work in a safe manner. This directly impacts Selkirk's requirements to satisfy regulations thus avoiding penalties and fines. I chose CorrTech because:

Being that this is the first Corps of Engineers project that CorrTech has worked on, our expectations on how the CQC organization would function wasn't very high. To our pleasant surprise, however, the CorrTech's performance in this area was quite good. They were very proactive in promptly addressing/correcting any area of concern which in turn created a nice partnering atmosphere.

With relation to CorrTech's Professional Conduct, he went on to say:

CorrTech continuously promoted and maintained open lines of communication among members of their staff, the User and Resident Office personnel which greatly enhanced our ability to resolve any construction related issues and/or problems before they reached the critical stage.

CorrTech completed the project in 2000 within the allocated time and extension due to design errors. Total contract value was $326,000.
