Cornell University has contracted with CorrTech, Inc. to provide expertise and solutions in a range of corrosion engineering and infrastructure technologies. CorrTech provides Cornell with annual cathodic protection evaluation surveys of the endowed and state owned chilled water pipelines and the state owned gas pipelines, as well as design documents, written operational status reports and miscellaneous consulting services. Project management was provided by a NACE Certified Corrosion Specialist. Construction work was performed by personnel certified in OSHA safe work and construction procedures. CorrTech installed twelve (12) semi-deep wells, five (5) new rectifiers and five (5) new test stations.
The primary field reconnaissance efforts were determined and developed specific design features for electrical isolation, AC location and other pertinent items. The sections under consideration were walked for physical inspection of the area. Transmission tower geometry, operating voltage and configuration were performed during the field reconnaissance. AC mitigation was paramount to the design phase of the pipeline to insure safe operation.
Specific instruction was given to designated installation personnel on anode and reference cell placement, cad welding of test wires and test station placement.
