CorrTech at AMPP 2024 – Advancing Corrosion Engineering

We’re proud to share that Ted Midura, P.E. of CorrTech, Inc. attended the AMPP National Conference in Nashville (April 6–10) and presented two insightful technical papers:

  • DC Interference Caused by Lead Sheathed Cable Telecommunications Lines

A case study highlighting external corrosion failures in municipal water piping due to interference from buried lead-sheathed telephone cables.

  • Metallic Density Mapping – Buried Piping Network Digital Twin Modeling CP Current Requirements

Co-authored with Matthew Darois, CGWP, this presentation showcased a methodology for developing digital twins of buried piping systems to determine cathodic protection current requirements—critical for corrosion control in complex plant environments, including nuclear power facilities.

This approach integrates GIS, CAD, and BIM technologies to support safer infrastructure design, asset management, and decommissioning efforts.

CorrTech, Inc. Announces Pending CT DPH Lab Certification and New Certified Lab Director, Lisa M. Small

CorrTech, Inc. announces the pending certification of their NEW corrosion laboratory with the State of Connecticut Department of Public health (CT DPH), and their new Connecticut State Certified Laboratory Director, Lisa M. Small.

State certification will allow the CorrTech Corrosion Laboratory to participate in more projects involving environmental testing, which specify higher level requirements, pertaining to non-potable water, wastewater, and soil analysis.

The state of Connecticut’s Environmental Laboratory Certification Program (ELCP) is known for rigorous standards, and enforcement of regulations for environmental laboratories, and ensuring accurate and reliable testing. The ELCP ensures that environmental laboratories meet all applicable United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and Connecticut standards, promoting accurate and precise analytical data. The CT DPH enforces regulations related to environmental laboratories, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. The Regulatory Compliance Programs (RCP) require laboratories to ensure adherence to rigorous quality control standards.

CorrTech is excited to welcome this year’s interns!

As we prepare for the upcoming internship season, we’re also taking a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible students who were part of our 2024 program. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such bright, dedicated individuals and are proud of the contributions they made to our projects.

  • Riley Beckham – UCONN Electrical Engineering, graduating December 2024

Riley played a key role in installing new cathodic protection test stations at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. CorrTech has been upgrading the cathodic protection systems for the steam and condensate piping across the campus throughout 2024, and Riley was instrumental in both the site installation and reporting phases of the project.

  • Kesner Michel – Junior, UCONN, Chemical Engineering

  • Miguel Valle – Junior, New York University, Civil Engineering

  • Caleb Draper – Freshman, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Chemical Engineering

We’re thankful for the energy, ideas, and hard work these interns brought to CorrTech—and we’re looking forward to what the next class will accomplish!

MassDEP Approves Tidal Wave Water Mixer for Use in Massachusetts Drinking Water Tanks

We’re excited to announce that the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) Drinking Water Program has officially approved the Big Wave Tidal Wave Water Mixer as a new technology for use in drinking water storage tanks across the state.

This approval presents a valuable opportunity for our Massachusetts clients seeking a cost-effective and highly efficient water mixing solution. Unlike conventional mixers, the Tidal Wave's active mixing technology rapidly breaks up stagnant water layers and eliminates issues like thermal stratification, residual stratification, and thermocline formation. It works by circulating cooler water from the bottom of the tank, helping to maintain consistent water temperature and stable chlorine or chloramine residuals.

CorrTech is the certified installer for Big Wave mixers, blowers, and chloramine boosting systems.

PRESS RELEASE: August 11, 2021

CorrTech Awarded Contract for Nautilus Pier, Groton, CT

CorrTech has been awarded a contract to design/build a cathodic protection system to protect the Nautilus Pier in Groton, CT.  The Pier is home to the Nautilus Submarine, SSN-571.

The USS Nautilus was the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine and the first vessel to transit the North Pole. The Nautilus was decommissioned in 1980 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1982.  The submarine is preserved at the US Navy Submarine Force Museum in Groton, CT, where visitors can tour the historic ship.

The cathodic protection system to be designed and built by CorrTech will protect the Nautilus Pier and sheet pile wall from corrosion by the use of sacrificial anodes.  The cathodic protection system works in the marine environment to protect the steel from the effects of salt water corrosion.

CorrTech will be working under the Asturian Group to perform this work under its Multiple Award Construction Contract (MACC) with the Naval Submarine Base, New London-Groton, CT. The design work is underway, with construction scheduled to begin in November 2021

CorrTech is proud to partner with Asturian Group to help preserve this significant historic naval asset.
