Safeguarding NYC’s Water: CorrTech’s Cathodic Protection Design for Trunk Mains & Tunnel 3 Interconnections
CorrTech, Inc. is proud to support AECOM in designing a sacrificial anode system for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, DEP critical trunk water mains connecting to Tunnel 3. These interconnections are the lifeline of NYC’s water supply, moving water from the Catskill reservoirs 125 miles to the north into the city’s distribution system—all gravity fed to serve the five boroughs.
As a certified Woman-Owned and Veteran-Owned business with offices across New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, CorrTech brings decades of corrosion engineering expertise to every project. Since 1997, we’ve completed nearly 60 cathodic protection design projects for large-diameter water mains, ensuring the long-term integrity of the city’s water infrastructure.
For this project, CorrTech conducted initial stray current and soil resistivity testing, developed full design documentation, and specified a sacrificial anode system engineered for a minimum 50-year life. Our work includes field assessments, design drawings, bill of materials, calculations, and construction guidance to provide NYC with reliable, protected water mains for decades to come.
CorrTech continues to provide expert corrosion engineering and cathodic protection support for municipal infrastructure—keeping essential systems safe, reliable, and built to last.
